In the late 19th century, riverboat pilots rounded the bend in the Ohio River and saw the Vulcan Man sitting atop the Vulcan Plow Company at First and Ingle Streets. Standing at 9.5 feet tall and clearly visible from the water, the statue marked their understood entry into Evansville. Until 1957 the statue could be seen atop the building; it has now been fully restored and is on display at the Evansville Museum.
